At the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains lies the romantic city of Granada, which is the perfect base for those who want to go on a mountain holiday. 20 miles from Granada city centre are the Sierra Nevada mountains which have nearly 40 miles of ski slopes and some 45 pistes. The Moorish Alhambra Palace is located in Granada and is regarded as one of its greatest attractions. It was built in the 14th century and has intricate architecture and also boasts spectacular gardens which have numerous impressive water features. Surrounding this palace there is a labyrinth of streets which lead eventually to the Plaza de San Nicolas which offers a fantastic view over the Palace. Often in this area there are impromptu concerts where local performers play music in stunning surrounds.
The coastline of Granada is tropical and there are 60 miles of beautiful beaches, including Los Lanos, Montil and Malaga. On these beaches there are a great many activities including sailing, swimming, snorkelling, windsurfing and diving.
Near Granada there are three golf courses which are beautifully landscaped and enjoy spectacular mountain views. Granada is also a place with fantastic dining options and the city boasts a great many bars and restaurants which serve international as well as local cuisine.
Altiplano de Granada is located on a high plateau north of the city and is something that should not be missed by all those who are visiting the city. It is a set of incredible cave dwellings which are surrounded by beautiful mountains. Shopping in the area is also very popular and visitors should travel to Zaidin, a district of Granada which hosts a vast outdoor market. This market only takes place on Saturdays.
Another great attraction in the town where you will be able to see performers taking part in the flamenco song is the Sacromonte district. There is also a dance area here when many people can be seen dancing to the music.
