There are thousands of countries and places all over the world where people go for a holiday. Different tourists look for different kind of holidays! For some, it’s the beaches that they would like to enjoy, for some it would be the resorts and activities while for some its history. Therefore, everyone wants to enjoy his or her holidays in a different way. Spain is a popular place when it comes to holidays. The foremost reason for that is that Spain has almost everything which a tourist might admire. They have the beaches of Malaga and Cadiz, the water sports of Andalucia, the night life of Madrid, the home cooked cuisines of Seville and a lot more. That’s why this country makes up for every kind of tourist. However, if its history you are looking for, then the whole of Spain needs to be explored as every city in Spain has a glorious past. Anyhow, if there are time constraints, then there is one city which will make up for other cities, Murcia.

This city is built on a low lying fertile plain which is known as Huerta. The city of Murcia has been a bit unfortunate when it comes to development as it is a not so developed city of coastal Spain. On the other hand, its neighbouring cities of Andalucia and Valencia are on a boom when it comes to tourism. Then also Murcia has been untouched by foreign tourists. Murcia has been overlooked because it is not as attractive as Valencia and Andalucia, the only thing it has are the Huertas i.e. family farms, which are still using Moorish irrigation systems for the production of the countries best vegetables and citrus fruits. The region of Murcia is special in its own way as its coastline is not that crowded because of lack of commercialisation, however, in near future things would be different as many projects are to be introduced in Murcia such as golf resorts. Anyhow, nothing can be compared to Murcia when you talk about ancient monuments, museums, churches and palaces.

The Cathedral in Murcia is a must visit place. It has a 96 meter long tower and has atleast 25 bells. This cathedral was constructed in the 14th century and its construction got over after centuries. Another one in this race is the Church of Santa Ana; it is actually famous because the sisters of the convents sell baked cakes to the public from a hatch which revolves. They do this to avoid contact with the outside world which is a part of their vow. The list doesn’t finish over here; another place to visit is the 19th century casino and the famous Salzillo Museum. The Salzillo museum has a huge collection of life sized sculptures made out of polychrome. Polychrome means various colours, and the museum gets its name from the famous Murcian sculptor known as Francisco Salzillo. Now, you might have known that even the smallest of Spain are magnificent.
