Taking a family cruise is a wonderfully relaxing way to take a holiday, from the moment you step on board ship, your holiday has begun. No messing with flights and transfers, no worrying about lost luggage, and no tired kids asking you ‘are we there yet’. Instead, your cruise ship is your floating hotel, your transport and a great place to have fun and enjoy your holiday too.
There are of course many places in the world which you can visit when you travel by cruise ship, but Spain is one place which is very popular. The region is so diverse that you can experience a lot in a very short space of time, and there are many cruises which sail here from the UK some taking you for a short break, others allowing longer vacations where you get the chance to travel a bit further and see a little more.
One cruise option if you’re not sure about how your family will enjoy cruise life is to go for a mini cruise break where you sail from Portsmouth to somewhere such as Santander in Spain taking 24 hours to get there. This will allow you all to relax and try out the facilities on board the ship, from the swimming pool and whirl pool, to cinema, bar and entertainments.
If you’re looking for something a little longer, then one of the best cruise companies for familes is Royal Caribbean Cruises. They provide crèche facilities for babies from the 6mths to 3 yrs old, children’s club for the 3-11 year olds, and a teen club for the older kids. There are loads of activities for everyone to join in with, and although these vary from ship to ship, they often include things such as wall climbing, ice skating and even basket ball. There are swimming pools, cinemas, theatre, shops, bars and restaurants all there on board ship, and for when the adults need some time away from the kids, they generally have some adult only facilities too such as gym, pool and spa.
Of course it’s not all about what you do while you’re on board ship either, and cruising to Spain there are many different places which your ship might call in. In Barcelona you could enjoy a tour of the city including a visit to FC Barcelona’s home stadium which is the largest football stadium in Europe. Travelling through the Canary islands, you might take a submarine dive off Gran Canaria or enjoy a wine and tapas experience on Tenerife. Alicante on Spain’s western Mediterranean coastline is a delightful resort where you can enjoy the town’s old quarter with it’s labyrinth of winding streets and 14th century church.
Whichever cruise to Spain you choose, with all the entertainment on board, and all the wonderful experiences to be had during excursions on land, a family cruise can be a real holiday to remember.
