Going overseas for healthcare to save money is nothing new to us Brits, but these trips are often long haul. The news that eight private hospitals and clinics around the Alicante area in Spain have joined forces with the aim of attracting patients from overseas will be good news for lots of people.
Through a joint marketing and promotion programme, these facilities aim to let potential visitors know exactly what they are offering. Those who have signed up for the scheme are hospitals located in Vistahermosa, Medimar, Torrevieja and Benidorm, the ophthalmology clinic run by the Vissum corporation, the El Albir clinic, the Davo institute of maxillofacial and the Casaverde rehabilitation centre.
It is estimated that the initial costing will come to around €400,000, this budget will cover the administration costs involved in the huge promotion and marketing push that will be done via insurance brokers and health faculties throughout the US, Russia, North Africa and Europe. These countries are the initial targets and if successful, the operation will no doubt go further afield.
The new coalition has appointed Alberto Giminez Artes as CEO, and he has been quick to point out that there will be no compromise in the healthcare offered to Spanish nationals.
Location has played a massive part in the creation of this association. The airport has recently been expanded at El Altet and now receives the cheap flights which makes it very accessible from the rest of Europe. The area is also renowned for its excellent healthcare facilities, which will allay the worries of many who are undecided about travelling abroad for treatments. As Costa Blanca is on the Mediterranean coastline it provides a warm and comfortable environment for any recuperation that is needed before the flight home.
In a well thought out piece of marketing strategy, the association will be offering accommodation as well as the health care. This will include both the patient and any friends or relatives they bring with them for support. This combines to make an inclusive package where everything is taken care of and leaves little for the patient to have to worry about.
